Robert with Yamaguchi Shihan
Robert Sensei was fortunate to have been in Japan before the late Yamaguchi Shihan past away in 1996. Yamaguchi Shihan was one of the highest ranked swordsman in Japan and one of the highest ranked instructors at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo. Many called Shihan the master of the soft style (About as soft as a tidal wave. Impossible to hold and always takes your balance). His movements were so precise and slight that advanced students needed to give their undivided attention to his demonstrations to catch just a glimpse of what Shihan was teaching.

In that cafe with Endo Shihan, Sensei Robert often asked about Yamaguchi Shihan's teachings and, not always but sometimes, could get insight to the techniques through Endo Shihan's esoteric answers.
