Robert Sensei's Aikido History


1985 – Started Aikido at the University of Georgia Aikido club under the guidance of McLowery Elrod (founder of the Augusta Aikido club).

1986 – Studied under Rodney Grantham at the Aikido Centers of Atlanta.

1987 – Moved to New Jersey where he studied under Richard Stickles (6th Dan) as an uchi-deshi (live in student). At that time Greg Oconnor (5th Dan) was also teaching at the Aikido Schools of New Jersey.

1989 – Moved to Japan to study at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo. His main influences were from Endo Sensei, Yamaguchi Sensei and Yasuno Sensei but he went to classes taught by every Instructor.

1991 – Returned to NJ dojo as an assistant instructor. Studied regularly at the New York Aikikai with Yamada sensei, Sugano Sensei and Donavan Waite.

1991 - Returned to study at Hombu dojo, Japan, for the next 6 years.

1993 – Participated in the opening of Endo Sensei’s Dojo in Saku city, Nagano Prefecture.

1993 - Married Li Jing Ling in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

1997 – Went to Thailand for 6-months.

1998 – Moved to Atlanta and opened Aikido Schools of Atlanta.

1998 - Helped bring daughter, Elena Ling House, into the world.


2001 - Moved to Commerce, Georgia, and opened Aikido of Commerce.


2002 - Bought 1910 opera house and with the help of many students renovated the space to become our new beautiful dojo.
